Description

Santa Fe’s Fluted Sleeper pair – BLUE MOON and the BLUE GRASS

Between 1947 and 1948 the Santa Fe took delivery of 19 sleepers of this style from Pullman.  Assigned to almost every Santa Fe train, the floor plan was 10-3-2, 10 roomettes, 3 bedrooms and 2 compartments. Of special note, that the Santa Fe was the only railroad that used this floor plan.

It is because of this fact, we know that this car body, would not be one Santa Fe modelers will ever see produced in N Scale. So for those reasons, we are calling our Pullman fluted sleeper a ‘Classic Model’ for the Blue Series.  Every one of the 10/6 Palm Series cars has been done by our good friends at Kato. The other 10/6 car is the Pine Series built by Budd. Maybe down the track we might consider producing a Pine Series sleeper if anyone would be interested.

Making these cars extra special, we have added a photo etch door gate with a drumhead (not lighted). The Grand Canyon as shown, and the Texas Chief will be that herald on the other car. These come ready to run and nothing for you to assemble.

Blue Grass – Consist report showing this car on the Grand Canyon (not exclusively).

Blue Moon – Consist report showing this car on the Texas Chief (not exclusively).

When originally placed into service, there were three Blue Series cars assigned to each Super Chief train set.

The SFR&MS has the complete story and great photos of these cars. As we see consists with these specific cars on the trains we are building, we know you will appreciate something new for the Santa Fe Railway!

This selection is for the Santa Fe Sleeper Pair of both cars and your only option for the Blue Series cars.

Pointing out the obvious, you can also run these cars in the middle of a train.  So even if you are modeling another ATSF train, the fact is you need Blue sleepers!

Nothing better than receiving that white box from Lowell Smith.

Blunt End Observation is a GRAND SLAM! I’ve wanted this car for ages but never figured out a good way to kitbash it.

I am looking forward to many more releases in the new year. I stayed up really late on Christmas to talk to Santa when he came by our house. I asked him for an n-scale SP&S 700, and he said that was out of his league and I’d better call you.

“You have no idea how excited I am about these cars . . .”

Dan D.

I look forward to continuing to buy trains from my favorite special run train maker. That’s how I think of you now, “The Train Maker”.  And speaking of cool trains, I just received a box loaded with great looking Texas Special cars. Thanks.  I certainly look forward to all the new releases you are planning.

Charles

“You have received many compliments when I have run my RailSmith cars with my friends.”

You know I’m always looking forward to the next release and its arrival with great anticipation. I treasure my Lowell Smith Signature collection.

Thank you for everything you’ve done and everything you do for the modeling community. I can honestly say that my enjoyment of the hobby has benefited greatly because of you.
