Our coffee story goes back to 1976 when we first met. On dates with family and friends, Barb would order coffee after dinner and enjoy each sip while everyone chatted and laughed together. For me, coffee had always been inconsistent and boring, so I declined. But observing Barb, I realized that the nature of coffee is its ability to bring people together. That’s when I gave it another chance, found the right recipe, and we found ourselves to be a coffee couple.
Fast forward twenty years, while running our brick and mortar model train shop in Portland, Oregon, the fresh coffee was always on for our customers, friends and family. As we learned, there is always something relaxing and special about having a place to slow down, if only for the refreshment alone, but also in having that social connection with others.
Everyone who entered our shop knew that the red and white checkered table promised fresh, hot, specially-selected coffee to enjoy while spending the day passing time with us, shopping, and talking about trains. But along the way we realized there was more to it than taking a break somewhere. Having a great experience meant enjoying the right coffee when you do take a break, and that’s why Gold Spike Coffee is our family-steeped endeavor.
Whether it is in your kitchen, office, shop, or just sitting around the caboose stove, we know the importance of a great cup of coffee. And that’s why we’re doing it. We know it will keep the stories of friends and family alive with every cup.
