Description

Texas Special – Pennsy’s  ‘Tioga Rapids’

Shadowlined Cars – The Pennsylvania Railroad contributed cars for the Texas Special for passenger connections in New York.  Known as ‘interline’ cars, they were painted to match and lettered for the Texas Special consist of red and silver. But as these cars were smooth sided cars, they were given the distinctive shadow line paint to blend into the rest of the train.

The Tioga Rapids along with the Swatara Rapids were assigned to The Texas Special in 1953 and painted in the shadowine scheme.  In 1956 when the Tioga Rapids was shopped for service, it was decided not to repaint the shadow-lining as it was so costly. This is that version of Tioga Rapids.

The black & white photo here is the Tioga Rapids in this paint version.

We are excited to announce that Micro-trains was commissioned to decorate this RailSmith car. This car will be stunning, smartly decorated in the prototype as seen here as it was run on The Texas Special.

Tioga Raipds is a 10/6 Pullman Standard Sleeper.

This is a Prototype car.

My kids absolutely love the Christmas cars! The C.K. Holiday, along with the Carolwood and Disney cars makes a wonderful Christmas train. It made many a loop under our tree this year.
