Description

Presenting the SP observation #9041  in yellow & gray for the City of Los Angeles!

Southern Pacific took five of their Plan 4140 sleepers and converted them to blunt-end cars to give the City of San Francisco a ‘finished end look’ for that train. Unlike the four Cascade and Golden State Obs cars that were built at Pullman, the five COSF cars were rebuilt in the SP shops. The end look all being the same.

This car #9041, was one of those five cars that served most of its life on the COSF so we have listed it also under that train.  While the 9041 was used mostly on the COSF, this particular car actually was run by the UP on the City of Los Angeles during 1960 & 1961. According to the SPHTS, it was thought that UP sent 6-6-4 sleepers to the SP for Overland Route service in exchange for the use of blunt-end 10/6 cars.  We have relied on the Southern Pacific Historical & Technical Society for all of our information. Actual photo here of 9041 on the City of Los Angeles is by Kyle Brewster.

This car has no drumhead in place as one was not used for this service on the COLA.  With this in mind, you could use this observation on any UP train, in your railroad world.

RailSmith Blunt End Observation features: accurate newly tooled end detail including operating rear light, photo etched door safety bar, period and car accurate drumhead (not lit), as well as Micro-Trains True Scale Coupler on the rear of the car.

If you would like all four of the SP OBS cars being released at this time, there is a special ‘Fleet Offer SPOH’  for ‘SP Observation Heaven’. Click Here.

Production costs seem to be volatile these days and we expect that the retail price of these cars will increase at or before delivery, so please reserve your car today for your best pricing.

This is a Prototype car, and a limited production.

Lowell, thanks to you and your company SP&S modelers (myself included) are having a much easier time modeling the North Bank Road. Thank you for your hard work!

I look forward to continuing to buy trains from my favorite special run train maker. That’s how I think of you now, “The Train Maker”.  And speaking of cool trains, I just received a box loaded with great looking Texas Special cars. Thanks.  I certainly look forward to all the new releases you are planning.

I just received the “The Great Locomotive Chase” set from the Walt Disney Family Museum. Very nicely done!

I have never been treated as graciously and in a manner more suited to a VIP in my life, as I was on our train trip.  It’s obvious how you’ve made your life a success story.  Looking around the train and seeing your friends I’m pretty sure they  were all made to feel very special by you, and your…

Every aspect of the trip was professionally done.  You and Barbara were on top of every change and your matter-of-fact assurances speak highly of your professionalism.  Jo Ann is a retired chef  and we know what good food is, and the meals provided on the CZ trip were stellar! BRAVO to you and Barbara for…
