Description
Pennsylvania SLEEPER Pair-Â Baltimore County & Union County
These sleepers are 2 of 10 cars built by Pullman-Standard and delivered in 1949.
According to the Pennsylvania Technical & Historical Society’s book on the subject, these cars were delivered in the Royal Purple lettering board scheme with for use on the ACL trains: Florida Special and the ‘Champions’. Â They remained in the purple scheme until 1958 when this simplified paint was adopted by the ACL, and thus these Pennsy cars.
Although these cars were built for use on the ACL Champions and the Florida Special, it was clear that the PRR was not as particular about where they were used. We know they were also used on the Chicago – Florida train, Â South Wind. Â The South Wind being a joint venture with PRR, L&N, ACL & FEC.
These are Prototype Cars.
