Description

Empire Builder Sleepers #1160 Gunsight Pass & #1168 Red Gap Pass

Built by Pullman-Standard for the 1947 new ‘Streamlined Empire Builder’, the accommodations were 8 duplex rooms, 4 bedrooms and 4 sections. Two of these cars and two of the Glacier Series sleepers were the sleeping cars assigned to this 1947 train, being delivered with skirts which our models will have.

These ‘Pass’ Series cars are not to be confused with the ‘Pass’ Series cars built for the 1951 Empire Builder! Those cars were a different floor plan and did not have duplex rooms. So the upper level windows are not seen on those cars for the 1951 new Empire Builder. That is another story!

Important note, that at least one sleeper from the Empire Builder was transferred to and from the SP&S trains 1 & 2 in Spokane. So you will see these cars in Portland on those SP&S trains. See the attached photo of Red Gap Pass in Portland. It is the later version.  See the skirts are removed and GN in the lettering board, indicating this would be a Western Star version.

There are two GN Sleepers in this  release. This is the first release of this version, Duplex ‘Pass’ Series cars for the 1947 Builder.

Using our Pullman-Standard Floor Plan 4119, these classic cars are important to have if you are building this great train from 1947.

Just a quick note to acknowledge receipt of my AFT Tool Car. Thanks so much for another Outstanding Piece of Craftsmanship! The AFT is my most prized “N” Scale collection. I look forward to continuing to buy trains from my favorite special run train maker. That’s how I think of you now, “The Train Maker”.  And speaking of cool trains, I just received a box loaded with great looking Texas Special cars. Thanks.  I certainly look forward to all the new releases you are planning.
