Baltimore & Ohio

A Baltimore & Ohio Story

The B&O is notably Americas first Railroad.

Our RailSmith production will begin with just one car. One important car that is needed for many of our other trains we are building. The B&O had connecting cars, referred to as ‘Interline’ cars. These sleepers would connect passengers from the B&O Flagships such as the National Limited (New York to St Louis), the Capitol Limited (Baltimore to Chicago), and the Cincinnatian (Washington to Cincinnati). Those were tops among the line-up of B&O trains.

These are trains that made connections allowing their sleeping car passengers to travel all the way to Oklahoma and Texas, for example. For a while, they even had a sleeper to the West Coast on Santa Fe’s Super Chief, as referenced in Fred Frailey’s book ‘A Quarter Century of Santa Fe Consists’.

With encouragement, we could bring a beautiful B&O train to our N Scale community. For now, we bring one sleeper that most of you need.
